While many seniors wait until the spring to take graduation photos, I usually have a fun group of MFP seniors who graduate in December a semester early or a semester late, snagging the coveted fall themed photo sessions! (Not to mention they also get that extra football season – I SEE YOU!!!) That being said, I actually encourage my spring graduates to book fall dates too, so they can utilize their photos all throughout their senior year.
There are a ton of advantages of shooting in the fall – the cooler temps being a given. There’s also an ease of shooting around the campus hot spots. With less people, we have more access, more flexibility, and more time to capture a variety of photos in places like the best angles of the Bizz, Evans Hall, and more. The energy on campus is usually buzzing with football season, homecoming, and students excited to be back with friends after the summer break.
In preparation for the upcoming fall senior season, I’m putting down some thoughts and inspiration for some of the upcoming shoots! Read on for more details and tips, and see some of my favorite senior photos with fall vibes below!
Outfit color schemes: greens, blues, light pink, gold, crimson, cream.
Best backgrounds: north oval foliage, ivy walls, mums, traditional campus buildings.
Props: OU football jersey, OU flag (someone please do this!), decorated cap & gown (if you don’t have yours yet, I’ve got you covered with an extra set!), OU pennant, cowboy boots, letter board with personalized message, ’19 balloons.
Best time to schedule: book now for remaining September & October dates! Beyond October, the foliage and scenery around campus tends to loose its vibrancy and color. Mums are typically in peak bloom the week of and week after Homecoming (this year it’s set for October 19!)
