I have the incredible opportunity through my job at OU to photograph the home football games on the field and it is one of my favorite things in the world. There is a lot that I’ve learned, not really even necessarily about photography but about an event environment, the structure of the game experience, how things run on the field, habits of people, etc. I have my “spots” I like to camp out – the NW sideline with the OU guys is a staple, but I will always make my way over to the NE sideline as well to grab photos of the student section and mascots. With so many moving pieces (and people!!), it’s kind of a gamble as far as being in the right place at the right moment to capture what I want, which makes having a full season pass & multiple opportunities to shoot incredibly helpful 🙂
My Monday routine is to head to the office and upload, cull, and edit my favorite images from the weekend’s game. I LOVE getting to share my favorites on my Instagram stories, along with the Go2OU account that I run. I think the thing that makes my football photos unique is that I’m not actually there to capture the game. Unlike most media on the field, my intention is to photograph the environment as a whole. Everything from the fans, cheer and pom, Ruf Neks, Pride, player celebrations, and any unique angles or perspectives I can find to get a variety of moments from the big-picture experience.
I spent a few hours pulling some of my favorite images from the 2018 OU Football season, and am excited to share them today as we all get together to watch the Big 12 Championship game! What better way to celebrate the end of championship November, right? Please feel free to link this blog post if you enjoy the images! If there is one that stands out to you, don’t hesitate to reach out via Instagram or email and I would be happy to share the file with you!
Thanks for following along and sharing your kind words all season as we cheer on the Sooners! It’s been a fun few months and I am already SO excited for next year! Boomer Sooner!
