The Wilsons in their Downtown Bartlesville Family Home Session
This darling Bartlesville Family is saying goodbye to their home of 22 years last summer! As they approached this bittersweet season, they wanted to commemorate the culmination of so much life lived in such a special home.
Bartlesville Family Session at Home
When Kristin first reached out to inquire about this family home photo session, it hit me hard! At the time, we were in the process of listing and selling our own downtown Bartlesville home. (It is just a few blocks away from the Wilsons). It was the first house Jonathan and I bought together a few months before we got married! We spent hours tearing out the ceilings, demoing the kitchen floor and counter tops, and so much more. The first few weeks of our marriage we slept with our mattress on 40 year old green carpet in what was going to be our guest room. So many memories from those first few months! And so much heart and soul went into restoring it! I knew the Wilsons felt the same way about their home, but add two decades of family life and it is even more sentimental. They brought all three of their children home to this house!
My Own Childhood Home Photos
Not only did this at home photoshoot have me thinking about me and Jonathan’s first home together, but it also reminded me of leaving my own childhood home. I was fifteen when we moved to a suburb of Chicago for my dad’s job. Saying goodbye to the only house I ever had memories in was the hardest thing I had done as a teenager! We still drive by almost every time we are back in Texas. And I love seeing photos from when we lived there! Jonathan’s parents lived in their house from the time he was 18 months old up until a few months ago, so he could appreciate all the reminiscing!
Personalized and Special Places at Home
I love the next two photos because these spaces hold very personal memories for this family! The screened in back porch, where I have no doubt many crisp fall evenings were shared, was so cozy and quaint! And the life-size playhouse Spence built for his kids! It even has an AC window unit in it, a 2nd floor, and legit finishes! Every little kid’s dream! We made sure to get a few of just the girls with the play house. They’re only three years apart.
I asked Kristin and Spence if there were any early photos of the two of them with the house that we could recreate. The one below on the right was the shot! They took a similar one when they closed on their house. I hope they find the original and can do a side by side!
