The Days | Extended Family Photos | Grand Lake Family Photographer

When Kira reached out about her family session, I had no idea what was in store – in the BEST way! She told me that their entire family was traveling to Grand Lake from Washington state this summer for a family event, and that they wanted to capture her husband’s side of the family in a place that has played a big part in their legacy and family history. The whole crew was staying at Shangri-La on Grand Lake, so we booked the date, did a little bit of online scouting and research for locations, and a few months later we had all 22 of them in front of a gorgeous view celebrating!

You might be wondering how all of these beautiful people are connected! What started as 5 Day kids (4 boys, 1 girl) has quickly multiplied with spouses and a whole crew of kids! Between them all, they have 10 littles under the age of 9, and four of those kids are under the age of 2! I don’t know how they did it – packing and traveling and planning activities for a full weekend getaway, coordinating everyone’s outfits, wrangling the kiddos to get dressed and ready, and then on top of that, these parents absolutely CRUSHED it behind the scenes throughout the session! I was so thankful to have so many awesome helpers getting kids attention, passing out sour patch kids rewards, and chasing the wiggly ones (including Kyla, my friend from Hope who joined me on the adventure!)! I’m almost positive this was the most people I’ve ever photographed and it was a huge feat for all of us!

Those of you who struggle with booking family photos – let this family and these images serve as motivation for the spring! I am entering the thick of things myself as we start our own family, but have plenty of experience between my sisters families and our family clients to know that putting together all the pieces for a photo session can feel like a mountain to climb. But you will want these photos! Your kiddos will never be this little again and the visual memories of this season will only be more treasured and more valuable with time.
