What to do in Portsmouth, NH & Kennebunkport, ME
Last week, my mom, sisters, and I left our kids and husbands at home and flew in to Boston for a little girls trip along the northeast coast! I was truly just along for the ride – my mom did most of the research ahead of time to formulate a loose plan but otherwise we were pretty much just winging it! We had a great few days together! Here is what we did, and the pictures to prove it of course! 🙂
What to do in Portsmouth, NH & Kennebunkport, ME
Our first afternoon we spent walking around the North End of Boston. We grabbed lunch at Quincy Market, visited the Paul Revere house, and strolled through the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (which would have been the PERFECT for a sunrise proposal right by the water!) I didn’t bring my “big camera” for this excursion…we were there on a Sunday afternoon so there was plenty of people watching and crowds! If I were to visit Boston again, I would have loved to visit the Harvard campus and a few more historical sites. Jonathan experienced a trip there when he was in grade school and loved it so I hope we’ll be back as a family sometime soon!
I wore this Madewell jacket (the PERFECT light layer for transitional weather!) and my favorite post-partum jeans every day of our trip! Next up was a short drive to Portsmouth, New Hampshire! We all agreed this is somewhere we wished we would have stayed a little longer. The Hotel Portsmouth was the cutest and quaintest little place to call home for the night (photos above!). Our favorite parts were the historic, boutique feel, and the breakfast! The location was perfect, too, just a short walk away from shopping and restaurants. The next day, we shopped (most memorable was Kennedy Framing and Art Gallery + Prelude Boutique), had lunch on the water, and walked through the historic Strawberry Banke neighborhood. Soooo many beautiful colonial homes, charming front doors, hydrangea bushes… We saw a few original American flags flying! So many great historic details and charm on these homes. If you’re there in the warmer months, Prescott Park was beautiful in bloom!
Our weather ended up being much cooler than expected. I only packed one sweater, and its way cuter without the jacket 🙂
Check out how close these houses are together! And no front yards!
After half a day in New Hampshire (which may be my new favorite state because of their state saying – “Live Free or Die”) we drove up to Kennebunkport, Maine, where we spent the next two days! Lots more shopping, a visit to this delicious chocolate shop where we all wish we would have gotten more, my most memorable lunch (HB Provisions) and dinner (Mabel’s – I got the Duchess and would 100% recommend. It was probably 2 whole pounds of shrimp, mussels, and lobster! Make a reservation!) I think we were a bit surprised at how touristy KPT felt, but we enjoyed it nonetheless!
We went on the hunt for a lighthouse…can you spot it in any of the photos below? Would have loved to find one that we could have gotten a bit closer to, but made the most of the adventure! Lobster buoys are abundant and make for the cutest decor, ornaments, and other random goodies and gifts while shopping around.
The slightest hints of fall in those trees! There was more apparent color in the leaves the day we left than the day we had arrived…and had we been there even just a few days later, SO many of the trees would have been changing! Below is the view off the bridge in Dock Square! There’s also a classic “Welcome to Kennebunkport” sign on it, too! Drove out a little ways to a quiet little beach! One of my favorite shots from the trip! We all put on our KPT gear for pictures on the beach haha.
