Steve Moakler Norman, Oklahoma – Hometowns & Campgrounds Show
What do these photos of my backyard have to do with anything?
When I was in 11th grade, I used to just click around aimlessly on iTunes until I found some new “underground” artist that I liked. One time, I came across an acoustic love song called Hesitate. For some reason, the song stuck with me, so I did more research. If I’m being honest, the guy that sang it was cute so that obviously got my attention. But the music was great too. Come to find out, so was the person behind it.
Since that day in 2010, I’ve seen Steve Moakler (or as my friends know him – just Steve) 14 times live. Everywhere from free campus shows, to dark sketchy bars, backyards, and the House of Blues, it’s been a blessing getting to enjoy his music and his perspective throughout the past six years. He’s just a great dude. Makes you feel like you’re the most important person in the room when he’s talking to you.
When Steve & Gracie announced their latest tour – the Hometowns & Campgrounds tour (V2 – they did their first round in 2013!) – I knew I had to go for it. This tour allows people to apply to host them in their backyards, living rooms, on their farms, driveways…wherever. I have the perfect setup in my current house…a massive backyard, close to campus, and I had been constantly praying for opportunities to open up my home to serve others. I guess he really likes me or something because…
the Moakler’s are officially coming to my backyard on November 2, 2017!!!!
I’ve been to New York, Nashville, DC, and Virginia this year alone but honestly, this night will be the highlight of it all!! You can’t beat it – great music from an awesome songwriter, free coffee from Capitals Coffee & Cream, incredible people, and an intimate, backyard atmosphere. Mark your calendars y’all.
