Family Session at The Victorian | Family Photographers in Tulsa OK
WHY I LOVED THE CHAOS OF THIS GREENHOUSE FAMILY SESSION AT THE VICTORIAN | FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHERS IN TULSA OK
If you’re looking for a perfectly posed, quiet family session… this one wasn’t it—and that’s exactly what made it so beautiful.
Laura is the genius behind almost all of our family photos and 100% of my branding photos. But more than that, she is a dear friend! Between the two of us, we have five kids under the age of 3.5 —so “movement” is our shared love language. Her oldest daughter and mine are the same age, and it’s been a gift to walk through the last few years of business and motherhood together—not just as photographers, but as friends who also share our faith. That bond runs deeper than business, and it’s something I’ll always treasure!
We met at The Victorian, a stunning new venue in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Picture a greenhouse-inspired space with open grassy areas, a sweeping willow tree, and new blooms being added every season. It’s a dream location for family photographers in Tulsa OK—versatile, peaceful, and park-like which makes it particularly magical, especially for little ones.
EMBRACING THE MOMENT
If there’s one thing I want families to know, it’s this: my own children are 100% my most difficult subjects. They have been more wild, disobedient, and stubborn than anyone I’ve ever photographed, hah! And besides, kids aren’t supposed to pose perfectly for an hour! They’re supposed to run, explore, giggle, and collapse into laughter. And that’s exactly what Laura’s three little ones did.
Instead of trying to “calm things down,” we leaned in. We played. We moved. We celebrated the energy—and it led to some of the most joy-filled, real images of their family.

TIMING: SUNRISE VS. SUNSET SESSIONS – A TULSA FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER’S PROFESSIONAL OPINION
This session happened during golden hour—just before sunset—which is ideal for soft, glowy light. But if you’ve got little ones whose energy skyrockets in the evenings, did you know we can catch golden hour on the front end of the day, too?
I recently photographed a beautiful sunrise session that surprised me. Morning light is equally stunning, and the day hasn’t had a chance to spiral yet. It’s perfect for families who thrive earlier in the day or want to try something different!
FOR FAMILIES WHO FEEL A LITTLE “TOO MUCH”
If you’ve ever skipped family photos because you were afraid of how your kids would behave, I hope Laura’s session encourages you. Chaos doesn’t cancel beauty. It creates it—if you trust your photographer (hi!) and let it.
As one of many family photographers in Tulsa OK, I know how easy it is to worry that your kids won’t “cooperate.” But what if we flipped that? What if our goal wasn’t cooperation, but connection?
And what if the most meaningful photos are the ones where your kids are fully themselves?
